Dear Future Self,
At the birth of a new year, countless souls from all over gather to both celebrate and mourn the past in preparation to "start over". The dreamers begin creating lists of things they want to accomplish in the coming months, while their cynical and far less ambitious critics sit back wondering if they'll ever come to their senses. I can understand both sides. But ultimately, I think it's important that you learn how to create your own Future rather than judge the opinions of others' who superimpose their low expectations and past failures onto you.
At the time of this transmission, it is Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2018. To think... Even though MLK was in the Now of 1963, his actions were for the Future. His life was one of many proofs that our individual realities can have massive, collective impact. His Message was the proof that we cannot only endeavor to change the world. It is our responsibility to help it evolve.
I often find myself trapped inside of my own mind, fearful of what some may think of me if I exercise what is perceived as "too much" faith in becoming a more purposeful Me. My ambitions are deemed too great, my love is deemed too overbearing, and my willingness to look passed the ignorance of mankind to see their potential is thought to be naiveté in action. It's been disheartening, but an interesting experience to say the least...
You know, it's funny. The same people telling us to speak things as though they were are the same crowd criticizing us for doing so publicly. Are we so afraid to fail that we downgrade our own faith and the dreams of others because it hurts to imagine falling short of such an audacious goal? I don't know about you, but I'd rather fail my way forward, with the accountability of a few rooting for me, than to succeed in silence and no one believing in the journey that ultimately became the Testimony that rocked the world.
You don't have to wait to set a goal for yourself. You don't have to attend every pity party or failure fiesta that you're invited to. You know that I know myself enough to stretch myself. I am self-aware, knowing that my strengths and weakness have equally helped me to navigate the often tumultuous waters of Life. My goals are more than just specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based. My goals are aimed to help me evolve that I may give someone else the permission to do the same.
What will be your New Year's evolution?
